I am out, but closeted.
Yeah that doesn’t make too much sense to me but it pretty much wraps my whole life into one word: confusing.
I came out to my drama teacher on a high school speech and debate meet. We were getting lunch at a Café Rio in American Fork, Utah and the girl from the table a few chairs away made eye contact and smiled at me. She then approached me and asked for my number and I told her I already had a girlfriend (which was 100% false!) Apparently, my face turned bright red and my teacher could immediately sense something was up. A few minutes later my teacher asked me who I was dating at school. I just blurted out, “there are a few guys I am interested in, but not dating anyone.” I couldn’t believe I blurted that out loud. My teacher was really awesome about it.
Without a second of hesitation she told me that I’ll find someone and high school wasn’t created to help students focus their time on a cycle of love lusts. She also said that she’s happy that I could share something so personal with her. We talked about it off and on during the speech and debate trip until we headed back to the school. I haven’t shared my “secret” with anyone else in real life. I have talked with many guys online and feel so comfortable getting to know other people with the same sexuality as I have. One day I think I can bring my self to be fully out, now that I am in college I think it will be easier to make that move to being more open about the true me. Thanks for hearing me out. I don’t know, I just thought I’d share 🙂 have a gay day!
We want to hear your story–here’s how to share it with us!
Each Sunday we feature a new Coming Out Story on the Latter Gay Stories blog. Coming Out is an important process that is different for everyone; some experiences are difficult to hear while others are heart-warming and inspiring. Still, coming out is never easy and more often than not we draw inspiration from others through their stories. We rely on weekly submissions to keep the Coming Out Stories alive. We invite you to share yours now.
