Each winter, in January, Las Vegas becomes more than a destination for lights and spectacle (and losing at the slot machine)—it becomes a gathering place for our LGBTQ+ fam!

The Sin City Classic, one of the world’s largest LGBTQ+ sporting events, returns annually to transform courts, fields, and venues across the city into spaces defined by inclusion, competition, and connection.

The event draws around 10,000 athletes from around the globe to compete in an expansive lineup of sports, including volleyball, basketball, softball, flag football, dodgeball, bowling, swimming, tennis, pickleball, table tennis, golf, kickball, cornhole, billiards, chess, wrestling, powerlifting, track and field, cheer and dance competitions—rodeo and so much more! The variety of options allows participants to engage at nearly any level of experience or physical ability.

The Sin City Classic is unique because its divisions are structured to be inclusive—ranging from recreational to highly competitive, with age-based and adaptive options—creating space for first-time athletes and seasoned competitors to participate. For many LGBTQ+ participants, the tournament represents a rare opportunity to compete openly and authentically, free from the exclusion that still exists in many traditional sports environments.

Beyond athletics, the tournament brings supporters, allies and queer friends to Las Vegas to gather, party and create new friendships. Spectators are always encouraged to attend, support the athletes, and experience the whole party firsthand.

If Jesus were truly fixated on condemning LGBTQ people, you’d think it would appear somewhere in the four Gospels—directly, indirectly, or even in passing, right?

It doesn’t.

Not a single time.

Not a hint.

Not even a subtle allusion.

And that silence isn’t an oversight; it’s profoundly telling.

If we’re serious about following the Bible faithfully—especially the words of Jesus Himself—perhaps we should focus first on the sins He repeatedly called out, without ambiguity or hesitation:

✔️ Greed (Luke 12:15)

✔️ Idolatry of wealth (Matthew 6:24)

✔️ Hypocrisy among religious leaders (Matthew 23:13)

✔️ Judgmental attitudes toward others (Matthew 7:1)

✔️ Pride and self-exaltation (Luke 14:11)

✔️ Neglecting the poor and needy (Luke 12:33)

✔️ Failing to care for the hungry, sick, or imprisoned (Matthew 25:45

✔️ Lust for power and dominance (Matthew 23:11)

✔️ Nationalistic loyalties over God’s kingdom (John 18:36)

✔️ Self-righteousness (Luke 5:32)

✔️ Exploiting the weak or vulnerable (Luke 20:47)

✔️ Hardness of heart (Matthew 13:13–15)

✔️ Despising those labeled as “sinners” (Matthew 9:12)

✔️ Using faith for personal status or control (Matthew 23:5–6)

✔️ Rejecting strangers and outsiders (Matthew 25:43)

This isn’t cherry-picking Scripture.

This is centering the red words (the actual teachings of Christ) that too often get overshadowed by cultural and political agendas. 👀

So yes—only after we’ve confronted the clear, repeated priorities of Jesus Himself should we approach the interpretive debates around passages like Romans 1, Leviticus 18, or 1 Corinthians 6. (Even then you’ll be shocked to learn the difference between pederastry and consensual relationships).

True discipleship starts with letting Jesus’ words challenge and reorder our own.

If that reordering feels uncomfortable or disruptive, maybe that’s exactly the point.
