Shout out to the dads who are willing to learn, to grow, and to let go of what they were taught—or weren’t taught.

Not perfectly. Not all at once. But honestly.

Calum Scott sings about in his song: “Boys In The Street”:

When I was younger, my dad told me I’d never amount to anything special.

He came at me from every angle, trying to change me.
Asking how I could do this to the family.
Warning me I’d end up alone.

“Stop kissing boys in the street.”

Now I’m older.
His heart is softer. Not perfect—but softer.
We don’t fight like we used to. Sometimes we just sit there, quiet, both of us knowing what we couldn’t say before.

He told me once, “I didn’t know any better. I was taught men only love women… but now I’m not so sure.”

And then, eventually—
“My son… keep kissing boys in the street.”

That’s what growth looks like.
We don’t need to try to rewrite the past, but learning something different moving forward is good for all of us.

We’ve been taught to look outward for danger—but rarely not inside our own homes and churches.

The actual data doesn’t show higher rates of abuse at drag shows, Pride events, or from LGBTQ people. So why is that the narrative?

What’s consistently documented is that abuse is happening in places where people are taught to trust: families, churches, and other institutions.

If protection is the goal, honesty has to come first.
