In this episode, we sit down with Steve Pynakker, the creator behind Mormon Book Reviews. Steve has never joined the Mormon church, but he’s deeply passionate about exploring the many different branches of the Mormon Restoration movement. On his YouTube channel, he dives into the history, beliefs, and practices of these various groups, offering a fascinating look at a tradition that many people don’t fully understand.

Steve also opens up about his personal journey as a gay man and an evangelist, and how those experiences shape the way he approaches his own faith and the Mormon Restoration. We talk about how he navigates the intersection of identity and belief, and why he’s so committed to making space for honest, open conversations about religion—especially in such a complex, often misunderstood movement.

This episode is a mix of history, personal stories, and some honest reflections on what it means to find your place in a world of evolving beliefs.

A federal judge has ordered the city of St. George, Utah to pay more than $350,000 in a lawsuit over a denied drag show permit—this is in addition to a prior settlement and the public apology the city was ordered to make.

The original case was brought by Southern Utah Drag Stars and performer Mitski Avalōx after the city denied a 2023 permit for a performance in a public park. Plaintiffs argued the decision violated their First Amendment rights. The Federal court agreed with the drag performers.

The city later settled the core claims, acknowledging the denial of the permit was unconstitutional and they issued a public apology. The settlement at that time did not resolve attorneys’ fees.

In an April 24, 2026 order, the court ruled the plaintiffs are the prevailing party and they are entitled to recover those costs. The city of St. George must now pay $350,216.50 in attorneys’ fees and $902 in additional costs.

Under federal civil rights law, governments that violate constitutional protections can be required to cover the legal costs of the people who challenge them—costs that are typically paid with public funds.

St. George city officials have moved from the “FA” stage to the “FO” stage of governance.
