The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has quietly removed a 2015 statement from its official newsroom website assuring its members that they are free to support LGBTQ events/groups—prompting questions and timing—with Utah’s largest Pride festival opening its doors this weekend.

The original statement, made by Elder D. Todd Christofferson in an interview with Church Public Affairs, affirmed that members who supported same-sex marriage or participated in LGBTQ+ friendly activities, such as marching in pride parades with groups like Mormons Building Bridges or engaging with organizations like Affirmation, would not risk their church membership or temple privileges.

Elder Christofferson’s words, published on the Church’s newsroom site since 2015, emphasized inclusivity: “We have individual members in the church with a variety of different opinions, beliefs, and positions on these issues and other issues.” The statement offered hope for many LGBTQ+ members and allies, suggesting a space for diverse views within the faith.

The link, originally at newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org, began redirecting to a 404 “Page Not Found” error.

The removal sparks speculation about the Church’s intentions. Is this a deliberate shift in messaging, or routine website maintenance that haooened to be scheduled for June?

No official explanation has been provided.

An archived version of the article, accessible via internet archives, preserves Elder Christofferson’s words, but their absence from the live site raises the question of the Church’s evolving narrative.

Does this reflect a change in the Church’s stance, or is it simply a digital housekeeping issue during Pride month?

Why are the gays blamed for creating the Pride parade, when it clearly started the morning Noah let two male lions board the Ark together?

Own the parade, Christians. 😂😂

Happy Pride! 🌈
